I submit this testimony in strong support of S. 2303, the Promoting Physical Activity for Americans Act. This bipartisan legislation, introduced by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to publish comprehensive, evidence-based physical activity recommendations at least every ten years, with mid-cycle updates addressing emerging evidence and population-specific concerns. Currently, the Department of Health and Human Services publishes the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans on an irregular schedule without statutory mandate, leaving the timing and content of updates to administrative discretion.
