Two nursing models and theories that differ in their approach to defining and discussing health and wellness, illness, the client, the environment, and nursing are the biopsychosocial model and the nursing systems model.

The biopsychosocial model defines health as a state of physical, mental, and social well-being, and emphasizes the importance of addressing the biological, psychological, and social factors that impact health. In contrast, the nursing systems model defines health as a dynamic state of balance and harmony within the individual, and emphasizes the importance of considering the individual’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

In terms of illness, the biopsychosocial model views illness as a result of the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors, and emphasizes the importance of addressing these factors in treating illness. In contrast, the nursing systems model views illness as a disruption of the individual’s state of balance and harmony, and emphasizes the importance of restoring balance and harmony in order to treat illness.

In terms of the client, the biopsychosocial model views the client as an individual with biological, psychological, and social needs, and emphasizes the importance of addressing these needs in providing care. In contrast, the nursing systems model views the client as a whole person with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, and emphasizes the importance of considering the client’s overall well-being in providing care.

In terms of nursing, the biopsychosocial model views nursing as a practice that involves assessing and addressing the biological, psychological, and social needs of individuals, and emphasizes the importance of using a holistic approach to care. In contrast, the nursing systems model views nursing as a practice that involves promoting balance and harmony within the individual, and emphasizes the importance of considering the individual’s overall well-being in providing care.

I believe that the nursing systems model aligns best with my beliefs about health, illness, the client, the environment, and nursing. This model emphasizes the importance of considering the whole person and their overall well-being in providing care, which aligns with my belief that nursing is about more than just treating physical symptoms, but also involves supporting the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of individuals. If I were to practice nursing using this model, it would affect the way I provide care by emphasizing the importance of considering the individual’s overall well-being, and by focusing on promoting balance and harmony within the individual.
