\nYou will answer this question:<\/p>\n
Why were the experiences of white, black, and Hispanic feminists different?<\/p>\n
You will write three paragraphs for this essay, the content of each is outlined
\nbelow. Remember as you write that you are not writing to me, your professor,
\nbut to a general reader. Write the two body paragraphs first and then write the
\nintroduction and background paragraphs.<\/p>\n
Introduction: In the first paragraph, you will introduce your reader to the topic
\nat hand. You must bring your reader into the topic from a general statement about
\nmovements of the 1960s to statements about feminism to the issue of the
\ndifferences in experiences of feminists. The paragraph will close with a thesis
\nstatement, which is a one-sentence answer to the question that the essay answers.
\nMinimum length for this paragraph should be five sentences.<\/p>\n
Two Body Paragraphs: Explain the differences in experience of white, black,
\nand Hispanic feminists and the reasons that their experiences were different.
\nBecause each paragraph must make one point, review your notes and the
\nreadings to find two points that you want to make about the differences. And,
\nthen, take notes on what specific evidence you will offer about those
\ndifferences.<\/p>\n
You may organize your two body paragraphs in different ways. You could
\ndo a paragraph on white feminists\u2019 experiences and a second on black and
\nHispanic feminists\u2019 experiences, explaining how the experiences for the black
\nand Hispanic feminists were different in the second paragraph. Or, you could
\norganize the two paragraphs around two kinds of differences and write about
\nthe experiences of each of the groups of feminists in both paragraphs.<\/p>\n
Remember a few points as you write:<\/p>\n
Do not write with the books open in front of you. Take notes on what
\nyou need to cover, writing in your own words. Then, write your paper by
\nlooking at your notes.<\/p>\n
Go over your paper after you have written it. Re-read it to find typos,
\nmissing words, and to check if the evidence in each paragraph supports
\nthe topic sentence of that paragraph.<\/p>\n
You must explain the reasons for the differences in feminist experience,
\nbut you also much show the context of the feminist movement. The
\nother movements we have studied are part of that context.<\/p>\n
Use the evidence sandwich. Introduce the sources that you work from by
\nidentifying the name of the author and the position of the author. For
\ndocuments, you should also explain how the author happened to write
\nthe document. And make sure that the reader can see how your
\nevidence hooks onto your topic sentence.<\/p>\n
Use information from any of the readings in this course that you find
\nuseful, particularly the ones from the two weeks on feminism. Do NOT
\nuse any Internet sources.<\/p>\n
Type up your two paragraphs and be sure that they conform to these rules:<\/p>\n
They must be typed, double-spaced, with your name at the top of the
\nfirst page.<\/p>\n
They must be written entirely in your own words. USE NO
\nQUOTATIONS.<\/p>\n
They must not include any information taken from any source other than
\nthose assigned in the class. USE NO INTERNET SOURCES TO WRITE
\nTHIS ASSIGNMENT.<\/p>\n
You must submit your paper on Blackboard:<\/p>\n
The paper is due by 11:00 p.m. on December 1 (November 30 for the
\nMonday evening class)<\/p>\n
Submit your paper in a format compatible with Microsoft Word for Mac
\n2011. Note: Rich Text Format is a common format that is compatible
\nwith this standard. Please avoid using PDF or Apple Pages formats if you
\npossibly can.<\/p>\n
The link for submitting it is under the Writing Assignments section in a
\nfolder labeled \u201cFeminism Assignment.\u201d In that folder is a link labeled
\n\u201cSubmit the Feminism Assignment.\u201d<\/p>\n
If something goes wrong submitting it on Blackboard, e-mail me a copy
\nas an MS Word file before the deadline. Problems with Blackboard are
\nnot an excuse to submit the paper late.<\/p>\n
This paper will be graded on a 100-point scale and that score will count
\ntoward the 180-point total for the Writing Assignments part of the course
\ngrade.<\/p>\n
The grades of all late papers will be lowered two full letter grades (for
\nexample, an A paper becomes a C paper if it is late). And I will not
\naccept the papers more than one week late.<\/p>\n
Papers that include passages plagiarized from the Internet, another
\nstudent\u2019s paper, or any other source will receive a zero (no credit).
