4.\tInterpretation of results:
\nThe Substance Use survey was conducted in Crestwood village within Manchester Township, Ocean County in New Jersey with 120 respondents being legible to participate. In the pre-survey the highest number of respondents (30) considers themselves to lack knowledge about substance abuse a community health problem. The same trend was observed in statement 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. However, a high number of the respondents were aware of the impact of the substance abuse to vulnerable population and believed it was a health issue in the community. The post-survey results indicate a higher number of respondents across the eight statements strongly agree or agree with the statements.<\/p>\n
Based on the pre and post-survey, the positive changes observed include the number of respondents that strongly agreed or agreed improved significantly. The high number of respondents that believed substance abuse was an issue in the community and were familiar with the SBIRT intervention was a positive factor towards the implementation of the intervention. However, a negative change was observed, whereby the number of respondents that considered themselves knowledgeable about the substance abuse as community health problem remained higher than it would have been expected following the presentation.<\/p>\n
5.\tOverall experience with the project:
\nThe overall experience with the project is the interaction with the community and respondents throughout the project provided an opportunity to understand more about the impact of substance abuse to human day-to-day activities.<\/p>\n
6.\tSummary of the outcomes:
\nThe improvement from 46 (pre-survey) to 73 (post-survey) of the participants who considered implementing the SBIRT community intervention to address the substance abuse health problem was an indication that more individuals within Crestwood community may be willing to implement SBIRT. Additionally, the presentation lead to further discussion such as the means of which the substances find way into the community and possible legal approach the community can consider curbing the supply of abusive substances to and within the village.<\/p>\n
7.\tBarriers in the project:
\nThe project faced various barriers including the difficulty of identifying the participants that matched the requirement for respondents. About half of respondents did not have enough time take part in the presentation and survey due long working hours with busy schedules. The limited resources available for the project made it challenging to include more participants which could have further improved the survey results.<\/p>\n
8.\tImplications for future practice:
\nThe completion project was a milestone I my personal and professional practice. At the personal level, it would provide the satisfaction of taking part in helping a community overcome a health problem.
