Draft a simple (2-3 pages) contract that has you representing a new rap artist as his or her agent. Make up the names, places, etc. Word docs preferred!<\/p>\n
You want to make sure that both you and your new artist are covered for things like compensation, duration of the deal, jurisdiction if it should go bad, etc. Any special provisions similar to sports contracts, etc.<\/p>\n
Basic format would be:<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Preface paragraph that describes who is contracting and where they live.
\n\u2022 The clauses (make them separate with their own heading!)
\n\u2022 Other conditions (also their own headings)

Don\u2019t freak out! I don\u2019t expect this to be law school or first year attorney level, but I do expect you to understand how to put the basics in a contract. It is okay for you to look around at samples, but don\u2019t copy something or I will have to find you and send you to the gallows!

Agreement To Employ The Attorney
\nThis agreement is entered between Mya Khan, \u201cClient: Rap Artist\u201d and Peter Schulz, \u201c Attorney\u201d, an undersigned attorney with the Venerable Law Group.
\n1.\tConditions
\nThis contractual agreement will not commence and the Attorney will have no duty of providing any legal services to the client until the latter returns a signed copy of this Agreement and pays the stipulated in the Compensations paragraph.<\/p>\n
This Agreement is entered into as of April 25th, 2022 (the Effective Date) between Mya Khan (\u201cthe Artist\u201d) located at West Bonanza Street, Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
This agreement is to be renewed at the end of the current one-year term for a successive one-year term unless either party gives written notice of its intention either to renegotiate the terms of this agreement or to terminate this agreement 30 days before the current term expires.
\n2.\tScope and Duties.
\nThe client has hired the attorney for the purpose of providing the legal services that are reasonably required for representing the client. Thus, the attorney takes reasonable steps to keep the client informed of any progress and responds to all the client\u2019s inquiries. The client is expected to be utmost honest with the attorney, cooperate in preparing for all the case trials, appear within reasonable notice for the dispositions and the required appearances, keep the attorney of any relevant and all relevant developments, abide by this Contractual Agreement, uphold the attorney\u2019s compensation accordingly and on-time, and keep the attorney advised in the client\u2019s address and contact information. The client agrees to not compromise the claims without having comprehensive discussions on the issues with the Attorney in advance. The Attorney has no authority to compromise the claim with no consent from the Client.
\n3.\tCompensation
\nThe Legal Attorney is to be paid fully for the rendered legal services under this Agreement at an hourly rate of $40. Notably, the Client agrees to make an initial retainer deposit of $10000 at the time in which the Attorney is hired. This money will be held in trust. The retainer deposit and other replenishing payments need to be remitted to The Venerable Law Group\u2019s Administrator for deposit.
\nThe Client authorizes the Attorney to withdraw sums from the trust account that will cater for all expenses and legal fees incurred while handling the former\u2019s case. It is prudent to note that it is intended that the retainer deposit is held and used as the security deposit until conclusion of the client case and all payments for outstanding fees for the legal services are made. In other words, the Client is to pay the Attorney in advance for all the legal services to be rendered through the constant maintenance of the retainer deposit which will be replenished within 21 days if receipt of the statement that will be the reason for the Attorney to withdraw from the case.
\n4.\tMalpractice Insurance
\nThe Attorney should honor the professional obligations as per the relevant Rules of Professional Conduct, the Attorney maintains professional liability insurance coverage provided by the APS Corporation. By signing into the Agreement, the Law firm acknowledges that it has the present professional liability insurance to cover the Agreement\u2019s purpose.
\n5.\tSeverability
\nThe provisions stipulated in this Agreement are severable. No effect will be upon the remaining Agreement terms in the event a particular provision(s) or term is determined illegal or unenforceable.
\n6.\tGoverning Law and Arbitration
\nThis Agreement is to be governed and construed as per the relevant legislation under the United States of America and the State of Nevada. The parties hereto need to make a reasonable attempt of setting any and all disputes in regards to issues related to the Agreement through friendly discussions. If this dispute cannot be addressed by this approach then the parties are to agree to have any and all disputes resolved through binding arbitration and the decisions made thereof will be binding.
\n7.\tElectronic Signature
\nThe parties agree that their respective electronic signature to this Agreement is valid as their original signature of the party and is effective to bind each party to the Agreement. The parties agree that every electronically signed document including this Agreement will be deemed to be written, signed and is part of a record that is established and maintained in the ordinary course of business.<\/p>\n
