Memoir Reaction and Analysis Paper
Book: Finding Zoe: A Deaf Woman’s Story of Identity, Love, and Adoption by Brandi Rarus and Gail Harris

Questions for Consideration: While reading the book, record impressions and note effective passages for quoting. Keep these questions in mind:
• What is the author’s style? Is it formal or informal? Does it suit the intended audience?
• Are concepts clearly defined? How well are the author’s ideas developed? What areas are covered/not covered? Why?
• How does the author delineate (define/describe) the people he/she chooses to discuss in the book? What is the plot structure?
• How accurate is the information in the book? Check outside sources if necessary.
• What silences are apparent? What is not being said or discussed? Why do you think that is?
• Think about the author’s purpose in writing the memoir in the broadest possible terms, keeping in mind when the memoir was written and how the intervening time span might have influenced the author’s viewpoint. You do not have to answer all of these questions, but you must find some way of constructing an argument that directly addresses the core issues of adoption within the memoir.
Paper Format Instructions
