Be organized. Have a logical plan for the information you present so that your points move smoothly from one to the next. Create an outline so you can remind yourself of key points, examples, and specific details from your sources.
Announce the main topics to your audience. In oral presentations, your audience can’t see information on the page, so it is especially important to clearly announce what you’ll be discussing in each part of the presentation. This is called signposting. Phrases such as “to begin, I will offer an example” or “now I will define the four most important skills” will provide clear signposts for your audience so they understand the structure of your speech and don’t miss your main points.
Be courteous and thank your audience. Polished presenters remember to thank their audience for the invitation to speak during the introduction and for the audience’s attention at the end of the presentation.
