\nDepression: Facet of an adolescent\u2019s life
\nDepression is a significant problem that can influence every facet
\nof an adolescent\u2019s life. If depression is untreated it can inevitably
\nresult in problems within their family and school environment and
\nlead to drug abuse, violence, and suicide. Fortunately, this disease
\ncan be treated before irreversible tragedy occurs. Contributing
\nfactors that can lead to adolescent depression are peer pressure,
\nsports, hormone imbalance, and body changes. Extreme stressors
\nin home, school, personal, and social life can also contribute to
\nfeelings of depression in the adolescent. Signs and symptoms of
\ndepression within this age group that can extend into adulthood
\nare irritability, anger, unexplainable aches or pains, extreme
\nsensitivity to criticism, and withdraw from family, friends, and
\nactivities. An example of primary prevention that targets this
\ndisease would include an adolescent depression awareness
\nprogram to provide education to individuals within this age group.
\nSecondary prevention can be provided through early detection
\nand treatment if signs and symptoms of depression are present.
\nTertiary methods may include psychological interventions to treat
\nan individual experiencing active adolescent depression including
\ninterpersonal therapy. Depression can be very damaging if left
\nuntreated and if warning signs are observed community resources
\nare available such as the Health Care Alliance for Response to
