\nCOURSE DESCRIPTION
\nThis course is designed to teach students financial research. We will
\nanalyze the management of a company, and turn qualitative findings into
\nquantitative output that could guide investment decisions.

\nRESEARCH OVERVIEW
\nStudents in this class will work to fully quantify the Management
\ncomponent of the GW Investment Institute Investment Framework:
\nBusiness, Management, Price vs. Valuation, Balance Sheet, (BMPB). Each
\nstudent will perform research on a specific publicly listed company
\nowned by GW endowment \/ Student Investment Funds (SIFs).

\nASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
\nAssignment 1: high level overview of GWII Investment Framework
\n\u25cf Students read several blog posts to get familiar with framework.
\n\u25cf One page (double spaced) summary of management, using what you have
\nlearned from the blog posts about management. (due: February 13, 2023)
\nAssignment 2: research and analysis, conversion of qualitative data to
\nquantitative data to produce scores for company management team.
\n\u25cf Students collect, organize, and analyze data about management. Specific details
\nto follow. (due: March 6, 2023).
\nAssignment 3: summary of all research findings (final deliverables)
\n\u25cf Students submit one page summary and deliver 5 minutes presentation. Specific

\nThis is a course overview for Undergraduate Research 4001-12 at the GW School of Business in Spring 2023. The course is focused on financial research and aims to teach students how to analyze the management of a company and turn qualitative findings into quantitative output that can guide investment decisions. Students will work on fully quantifying the Management component of the GW Investment Institute Investment Framework: Business, Management, Price vs. Valuation, Balance Sheet (BMPB). Each student will perform research on a specific publicly listed company owned by the GW endowment\/Student Investment Funds (SIFs).<\/p>\n
The assignments for the course include a high-level overview of the GWII Investment Framework, research and analysis of qualitative data to produce scores for company management teams, and a summary of all research findings as final deliverables. Each student has been assigned a specific company to research and analyze, and they are expected to read several blog posts to familiarize themselves with the framework. The due dates for the assignments are February 13, 2023, March 6, 2023, and April 10, 2023, respectively.<\/p>\n
The instructor for the course is Rodney E. Lake, who is the Teaching Instructor of Finance, the Director of the GW Investment Institute, and the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Programs. Office hours are available on Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and students can sign up for office hours using the provided link. The course will also have three research class meetings with Professor Lake on February 14, 2023, March 7, 2023, and April 11, 2023, at a location to be determined.<\/p>\n
