Early topic selection is essential because it shapes the depth, quality, and feasibility of the health promotion program you will develop across multiple weeks of the course.

Health Disparities

In recent decades, health promotion programs in the United States have substantially improved the health of residents.

Despite these gains, public health scholars consistently note that improvements are not evenly distributed across populations, particularly when social and structural factors limit access to care.

However, there is ongoing concern about health disparities, which occur most commonly in racial and ethnic minorities, people who do not have health insurance, and those who are poor and have less than a high school education.

Current research links these disparities to social determinants of health such as housing instability, food insecurity, limited transportation, and systemic racism.

A recent report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2011a) emphasizes that there are considerable and persistent gaps between the healthiest and least healthy people.

More recent CDC and Healthy People 2030 data continue to show that these gaps persist across income, race, geography, and education level.

For example, many racial and ethnic groups have higher rates of the following conditions that are amenable to preventive interventions: obesity, diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and cervical cancer.

Evidence-based prevention strategies, including culturally tailored education and community-based screening, have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing risk for these conditions.

Another disparity in preventive services is the significantly lower rates of adult immunizations among non-Hispanic Blacks and Hispanics.

Vaccine hesitancy, access barriers, and historical mistrust of healthcare systems are widely cited contributors to these immunization gaps.

Throughout this course, you will develop a scholarly PowerPoint Presentation: “Health Promotion Program Proposal,” addressing existing knowledge related to health promotion.

The presentation format supports concise communication of evidence while preparing you for professional public health and nursing roles.

This would be the same health problem you will use for future assignments.

For this activity:

Create a presentation page including the name, class name, and paper’s title.

Clear identification details help maintain academic professionalism and proper documentation.

Organize the paper continuously, as follows:

1. Introduce the problem with a concise overview of its health impact. This will be your introductory paragraph, but you won’t type “introduction” (1 paragraph).
2. Describe the global relevance of the problem including statistics (1-2 paragraphs).
3. Describe the national relevance of the problem using statistics (1-2 paragraphs).
4. Describe the local relevance and perspective of the problem also using statistics (1-2 paragraphs).
5. Conclude the idea justifying the development of promotion strategies at different levels. This is your final paragraph and conclusion, however you won’t type “conclusion” (1 paragraph).

Write the essay following the rules of formal writing and APA 7th edition.

Professional tone, clarity, and logical flow are essential components of scholarly health writing.

One paragraph contains at least three complete sentences.

Health disparities in HPV vaccination uptake remain evident at global, national, and local levels, with lower coverage rates consistently observed among uninsured and minority populations. Globally, the World Health Organization reports uneven vaccine access between high-income and low-income countries, contributing to preventable cervical cancer deaths. Nationally, CDC data show that HPV vaccination rates lag behind other adolescent vaccines in the United States. At the local level, community-based education and school-linked vaccination programs offer promising strategies to improve equitable access and long-term health outcomes.
