Topic: Evaluation of Health Information Systems in Nursing Practice
Purpose: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the role of health information systems in improving clinical workflow, data accuracy, and patient outcomes. Students will examine a healthcare organization’s information system, assess its strengths and limitations, and provide recommendations for optimizing its use in nursing practice.
Assignment Instructions
- Select a healthcare setting where electronic health records (EHRs) or a comparable health information system is actively used. Examples include acute care units, outpatient clinics, or long-term care facilities.
- Describe the system’s main components, such as documentation modules, clinical decision support tools, and communication interfaces.
- Analyze how the system supports patient safety, quality of care, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Discuss two challenges encountered by nursing staff when using the system and propose realistic solutions to improve usability and workflow efficiency.
- Include at least three scholarly references published between 2019 and 2026 to support your evaluation and recommendations.
Paper Requirements
- Length: 4–5 pages, excluding title and reference pages.
- Format: Follow APA 7th edition guidelines.
- Sources: Minimum of three peer-reviewed journal articles and one professional report from an authoritative body such as HIMSS or the ANA.
- Submission: Upload the completed paper by Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT.
